Member of QUETZAL-2's steering committee. QUETZAL-2: the second guatemalan satellite, a 2U cubesat developed by more than 50 undergraduate students of Del Valle University.
QUETZAL-2 CubeSat (second Guatemalan satellite): Passive Deorbit Module redesign and team advisor (2025 - present)
Redesigned and co-developed the satellite's passive deorbit submodule, to reduce number of parts, improve reliability and increase dragsail area.
Guided fall impact machine design (2022)
Development of a twin-wire guided free fall for multidirectional impacts. Used to test industrial and motorcycling helmets. Compatible with both linear and rotational accelerometers and multiple impact anvils (hemisphere, flat, edge, kerbstone). Adapted to reach up to 8 m/s impact velocity in a vertically constrained laboratory.
PPE helmet design, dynamic simulation & experimental validation (2022-2024)
Co-developed an industrial full brim helmet for an American company. Developed a dynamic FEA model to reach up to 95% accuracy, to optimize the weight and behaviour during impact. Product successfully launched into the American PPE market.
Material tensile testing using in-house developed technique (2021-2022)
Developed in-house equipment and technique to performed tensile tests. Obtained real stress vs. strain data to input into our FEA model. Compared to third-party lab material tests.
Agricultural digital twin case design (2020)
Designed and prototyped a case to protect the electronics of a "digital twin" against harsh environmental conditions. Design was adapted to allow CO2, ethilene, humidity, temperature and impact detection. Performed preliminary DFM for future injection molding.
Helmet apex pennetration testing machine design (2019)
Designed an in-house made apex pennetration machine for ANSI Z89.1 and EN397 top-of-head pennetration testing, using rapid prototyping, and Arduino electronics.
QUETZAL-1 CubeSat (first Guatemalan satellite): Camera mount development (2019)
Developed a camera mount for QUETZAL-1 CubeSat satellite (the first Guatemalan satellite), working around an already existing PCB, after camera hardware pivot towards an open source alternative.
QUETZAL-1 CubeSat (first Guatemalan satellite): Antenna deployment mechanism development (2017 - 2020)
Co-developed and co-validated an antenna deployment mechanism for QUETZAL-1 CubeSat satellite. The system successfully deployed 4/4 antennae in Low Earth Orbit in 2020.
Carbon fiber, foam and silicone prototyping (2018 - 2024)
Designed 3D-printed molds for foam, silicone and carbon fiber prototyping. Developed in-house technique for resin infusion and fiber wet lay prototyping methods.
